Chess Academy 3rd Scholastic Tournament Results

June 16th, 2012

On Saturday June 16 Active Kids Chess Academy held its 3rd Scholastic tournament at the Canadian International School.

Three of our Caissa chess club players represented Discovery College in the Primary section.

Miguel Angel (foreground), Jonathan (middle) and Bryant nervous but ready for their first round

With only three players it would be very difficult to win a school prize as the points of 4 boards would be added up.

Miguel Angel started very well with a couple of wins but got stuck at the end and scored 4 points in total. Jonathan who played his first tournament didn’t feel too well after a couple of rounds and unfortunately withdrew. Bryant had a slow start but warmed up gradually to end with a score of 3 wins, an enormous 300% improvement over his previous and first tournament. Well done!

All results of the Primary section.

Chess Youth Training Started

June 7th, 2012

On the first chess meeting we welcomed Jonathan, Bryant, Wilson, Jay, Miguel Angel and Mei Jing as our first six youth members.

Starting off with some causal chess and walking through the basic rules, we later practiced 10 minutes per person chess with all players playing twice against one another.

After this we played some simultaneous chess and did some puzzles.

Next week’s schedule is as follows:

  • 6pm-6.30pm: group 1 (Miguel Angel, Wilson and Bryant): the pin; group 2 (Mei Jing, Jonathan and Jay): concepts of the opening.
  • 6.30pm-7.30pm: first competition of 2 games in each group (writing down the moves).
  • 7.30pm-8pm: optional time for casual chess with choices between blitz chess, simultaneous chess or transfer chess, or preparing to go home.
